Tell the Putnam County Legislature:

Don't Mess with Sales Tax -- Cut My Property Taxes!

Thanks to a historic compromise with every town supervisor and village mayor, Putnam County can provide much-needed tax relief for residents where it matters most, clearing the way for County Executive Kevin Byrne to cut county property taxes by at least $1 million!

This is an unprecedented opportunity to responsibly share sales tax revenue so local residents don't get taxed twice. You, not Albany, would control local spending decisions on everything from sidewalks to stormwater upgrades.

Email to the Putnam County Legislature:

Dear Legislator:

As a Putnam County resident, I am calling on you to vote for the Historic Compromise Legislation supported by every one of Putnam County's executives at the county, town, and village levels.

This consensus agreement would leave the sales tax extension in place, clearing the way for the property tax cut your constituents are demanding while allocating much-needed resources to towns and villages increasingly squeezed by Albany's unfunded mandates.

County Executive Byrne has already vetoed the Legislature’s attempt to change the county's sales tax rate. This agreement is not only the best alternative available, it represents something 72% of your constituents want, according to published reports.

Putnam County’s representatives in the State Legislature have already sponsored the enabling legislation to implement this compromise (A8080A/S7540A). Please call an immediate special session and pass the required home rule resolution to implement this plan, TODAY!

Sincerely,
